Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was born on July 9 1956. He is an American actor, filmmaker, and director. He is known for his dramatic and comedy roles , and is considered to be an American famous cultural icon. Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was a Concord, California native to Janet Marylyn Hanks, a hospital worker and Amos Mefford Hanks an itinerant cook. His mother, who was originally referred to as "Fraga" was part of an ethnically Portuguese family. His father, however, was mainly English. Tom was raised in what he calls an "fractured" family. He was not an actor in college and credits the fact that he could not be cast in a college production as the reason he did not begin his professional career. He attended a downtown audition for a show in the community theater. The director invited him to Cleveland and that's when his acting career started.
